Disability Nutriton Occupational Therapy

Clinical Services

Our therapists will work closely with you and your therapy team to provide a holistic approach to your health and life goals: 

  • Enteral (tube) feeding of any type – gastrostomy, jejunostomy, naso-gastric or naso-jejunal, including using blended feeds where appropriate
  • Nutrition risks such as malnutrition and weight loss arising from problems chewing and swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Development of multidisciplinary Mealtime Management Plans
  • Fussy eating/restricted diets related to Autism and other diagnoses
  • Weight issues such as being underweight or trouble gaining weight, or faltering growth in infants and children
  • Nutrition support for weight, wound healing or other clinical issues
  • Gastrointestinal issues such as constipation, diarrhoea, reflux and vomiting
  • Dietary management of PKU (phenylketonuria) and epilepsy (ketogenic diet)
  • Education to support managing chronic health conditions such as diabetes for people with intellectual disability or mental health conditions
  • Planning a healthy menu and preparing meals that suit a range of dietary needs

Training & Menu Planning

Our therapists can provide tailored training to staff, carers and organisations on a number of nutrition-related topics. Please ask if we offer specific training if it is not listed below:

  • General nutrition topics such as recognising and responding to nutrition risks for people with disability
  • Client-specific training to upskill staff in caring and providing food for a client/group of client’s specific disability and health conditions
  • Enteral nutrition training – tailored to a specific client’s needs
  • Mealtime Preparation training (practical), usually offered in conjunction with a Speech Pathologist, where we teach staff and carers how to prepare, cook and texture modify recipes suited for a specific client/client group
  • Menu development – we will develop a tailored 4-week menu plan and provide you with the corresponding recipes to match the dietary and swallowing needs of a client/group of clients
  • Menu review – if you already have a menu, we can review it against the Australian nutrition standards and provide recommendations on how to improve

Fees

Please note our team specialises in disability, and we may not be the best fit for other referral types. We will discuss this with you when you contact us to ensure you receive the best service possible. You do not need a referral from your doctor.

For NDIS participants: we charge the maximum claimable rate outlined in the current NDIS Price Guide. We are registered with NDIS so are able to provide services to agency managed clients.

We are NOT a registered early intervention provider, so participant’s aged under 7 years must have self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding to use our services.

We are able to claim from the following categories:

  • CB Health and Wellbeing
  • CB Daily Activity
  • Daily Activities (under certain circumstances)

Third-Party Insurance: Participants wishing to access our services through other third party insurance schemes such as icare NSW or interstate insurance schemes can request their case manager contact us for a quote for services.

Private payment: Client’s wanting to pay privately should contact us for our current hourly rate. You may be eligible for a rebate through your private health insurance, but please contact your health fund to confirm. We cannot process rebates on site and you will be required to pay the full amount on the day.

Medicare: our clinician’s are registered with Medicare, however the limitations of Medicare funding affect the referrals that we can accept. Please call to discuss your circumstances before speaking with your GP to get an Enhanced Primary Care plan.
